Silver Star artisan studio

Our story

Made with intention,
lit with love.

Silver Star began at a kitchen table in 2019. A single wax pour, a handful of botanicals, and an obsession with getting every detail right. Seven years on, the spirit hasn't changed — only the reach has.

Meet the maker

Shalini Agarwal

Founder & Creative Director

Before Silver Star existed, Shalini was a textile designer in Mumbai who couldn't stop experimenting with fragrance on the side. Weekend markets, borrowed copper pots, and notebooks full of scent ratios — that's how the first candles were born.

She left her corporate job in 2021 to pursue the studio full-time. Her philosophy is simple: "Nothing ships that I wouldn't keep for myself."That bar hasn't lowered as the team has grown.

Outside the studio, Shalini obsesses over monsoon walks, second-hand pottery finds, and the kind of tea that steeps exactly four minutes. She answers the @silverstar DMs herself.

The journey of a woman who built this, one city at a time.

Shalini Agarwal started alone, at home, with a single candle pour in Kanpur in 2012. What follows is not a business story — it is a personal one.

A hobby that refused to stay quiet

It started without a plan. Shalini was making candles at home in Kanpur, gifting them to neighbours, adjusting the wax ratio at midnight. No brand, no strategy. Just a woman and a flame that kept drawing her back.

"I wasn't thinking about a business. I was thinking about the next pour."

A new city. A second category.

Moving to Patna meant starting over — but it also meant a blank slate. A jewellery maker she met at a local market became her first collaborator. She learned that customers wanted to carry something beautiful home with them.

"Every city teaches you what people love. Patna taught me jewellery."

Textiles, because Ahmedabad demands it

You cannot live in Ahmedabad and not fall in love with fabric. Shalini sourced her first linen scarves from a weaver in the old city. They sold faster than anything she had made before.

"Ahmedabad didn't just change my range. It changed how I think about craft."

Delhi scale. Delhi confidence.

Delhi was the first city that felt like the world was watching. Her first proper pop-up — a table at a design market in Hauz Khas — sold out by noon on day two. Clothing entered the picture because customers kept asking.

"Delhi dared me to take up more space. I finally did."

The world slowed down. She didn't.

When the pandemic locked everyone indoors, people suddenly cared about how their homes felt. Shalini launched her home décor line from a one-room studio. Orders came from eight cities she had never visited.

"The hardest years made the most faithful customers."

Home. And the beginning of everything.

Lucknow was where Shalini had always imagined ending up — and where she finally built a proper studio. Gifts and hampers became her sixth category. The Teej fair brought an award from the Mayor. The best is still being written.

"Lucknow is where Silver Star became something I can't contain anymore."

Voices we've earned

What people say when they come back

We don't do incentivised reviews. These came in over email, WhatsApp, and a note tucked inside a returned shipping box.

I've bought candles from a dozen brands. Silver Star is the only one where the scent actually matches what's described on the label — Monsoon Oud smells like rain, petrichor, and something almost resinous. Genuinely different.

Ordered a personalised gifting set for my sister's wedding. Priya replied to my custom-note request within an hour. The packaging was so beautiful the bride cried before even opening it.

The linen scarf I bought two years ago has been through two monsoon seasons and countless washes. Still soft, no pilling. I've recommended it to at least eight people.

We stock Silver Star at our Goa property. Guests always ask where the candles are from — it's the first thing they notice in the room. We've reordered four times this year.

Tried the cedar votives on a whim at the Bangalore pop-up. Now I burn one every evening while working. The throw is small but the mood it sets is something else entirely.

What sets Silver Star apart isn't just the product — it's the honesty. No fake five-star theatre, no over-promising. Just really good things made by real people.
